Note from Sundara: I had something to say about this color and the great Georgia O'Keefe that I'm sure was interesting and poetic. But my 6 year old had me up half the night and I can barely remember what my name is, let alone write anything coherent.
So, here's the yarn. It's lovely, as is the work and artist that inspired it. The end.

FINGERING SILKY MERINO is 560 yards and 150 grams per skein of 50% silk and 50% merino.

It knits up delightfully at 7-9 stitches per inch on US 0-2/2-2.75mm needles.

Note from Sundara: Way back, when I dyed the yarn I planned to launch Sundara Yarn with, one of my colors, which was supposed to be a teal and blue, came out of the pot very black, with bits of teal and blue throughout. Being pretty new to yarn dying, I thought I had burnt the yarn. I wasn't expecting black bits, so to me, the yarn must be burnt. Even though I knew I hadn't overheated the yarn and there was really no way the yarn could have burnt. I very nearly threw the skeins out in frustration.
But being curious, I hung it to dry and after a bit of time, I realized the dye had just gotten really dark in those blacker bits and it wasn't actually burnt at all. The integrity of the wool was fine, and while I didn't think anyone would buy the color, because I am a lover of lights and didn't fully understand how much other knitters really love dark yarn, but what the heck, I'll post it and see what happens.
I named it "Black Lagoon" because that is what it reminded me of, and launched Sundara Yarn. To my surprise, the Black Lagoon color sold out very quickly and I had several dozens of people asking me for more of it. Of course, I had no idea how I dyed the yarn and was never able to reproduce it, but have always had it in the back of my mind as something I'd like to try for again someday.
Well, someday is today, because I saw this gorgeous photo and thought I'd see what I could come up with. I can't tell you how closely these skeins resemble those original Black Lagoon, but I suppose it isn't too far off. So here is your chance, almost 11 years later, to have some of that super popular color that I almost threw out because I thought I burnt the yarn.

Note from Sundara: I am tried of being cold. My normally mild Pacific Northwest climate has taken on a bit of the arctic and we've had more below freezing days that not for the last month. I am tired of my water sources I need to dye yarn being frozen, I'm tired of the dry skin, I'm tired of scraping ice off my car every morning. I am ready for warmth, but there is no end in sight.
So rather than listen to my disgruntled tirade, I will give you yarn dyed the colors of a warm tropical island. You can feel the warm sand in your toes and the waves on your ankles as the surf softly breaks around your legs. Maybe there is a fruity beverage waiting for you by your lounge chair. And even better, they've magically eliminated the humidity so you can keep knitting while you are on this tropical isle.
The yarn in this photo is one iteration of this color. All skeins have these luscious blues and teals, but some include rich cobalts and emeralds and all contain a bit of the foamy waves. It's the best I can to try to warm us all up.

Note from Sundara: This is a really stunning blue of azure, cerulean and aquas verging into caribbean green, but alas, like many blues of this ilk, it refuses to photo well. So if you like bright blues and aquas, this is a great color for you.
