Note from Sundara...I can't remember if I've dyed this yarn in a teal, but even if I have, this one is pretty great, so it's worth it. It's "beachy teal" with some dark blues overlaid and is what you might think of when someone says "simple elegance."

I get asked a lot what to knit with this yarn. It's quickly become one of my favorite yarn bases. It's smooth, soft, and silky and I like it in anything garter, as the garter is lofty and just kind of works well with it. I find it best on US 3-5 needles. Something like a single color "Drachenfels" by Melanie Berg. Which most of us may have already knit, but it's a classic and I've knit it in a single color and it's divine. Can't go wrong. Would knit again. And again. Especially in this yarn.

"Transience of Tranquility" will not be dyed again. Updated: 3 skeins left.

Fingering Silky Alpaca is 437 yards and 100 grams of 70% baby alpaca and 30% mulberry silk.
7 stitches per inch on US 3/3.25mm needles.
Gently hand wash in tepid water for project longevity.

Note from Sundara...Yes, I did green and blue in this yarn week before last, but one of my bestest customers requested "a more darker, deeper, more saturated" version of those colors. And she wanted the blue to have a touch of violet. I hate saying no to my bestest customers. Especially when she sent me the sweater she wants to knit. (Renaissance Sweater by Elenor Mortensen).

And while that's a gorgeous, gorgeous sweater, most of us are probably not up for that level fair isle in our lives. "D'Aisi" by Natasja Hornsby is a cute little sweater that combines two colors in a way less complicated fashion and doesn't use a ton of yarn. I'd probably knit something like "22 Cowl" by Casapinka (1 skein each color) because it's fun and warm around your neck. Or, if you only want 1 skein, the "Birds and Ships" cowl by Caitlin Hunter is fun because it has a tassel. Who doesn't love a tassel?

"Elegantly Iris" will not be dyed again. Updated: just 3 skeins of each color left.

Italian Fingering Merino Cashmere is 383 yards and 100 grams of 80% super wash merino, 10% cashmere, and 10% nylon.

Note from Sundara...How fun are these pumpkins? I wanted a neutral purple, because I've decided that all colors can become a neutral if done right, and I found these. I'd grow these if I were the type of person who grew vegetables. They are the perfect neutral purple. Purple enough that you can tell it's purple, but the color is subtle enough that you could pair it with all sorts of things. It will work just as well as black, white, grey, or brown. It's versatile while being pretty.

So pretty, in fact, that I almost want to knit something heirloom quality. Something like the "Seashell Lace Wrap" by Purl Soho (3 skeins). I've been lusting after that for years. This color will show off the stitch pattern in all its glory and the yarn is soft and springy but has the sturdiness of merino that heirlooms need.

If you aren't up for that, other favorites for this color are the "Low Tide" sweater by Rachel Illsley, "Anticline" fingerless mitts by Emily Greene (1 skein), or "Along the Shoreline" shawl by Gretha Mensen (1 skein).

"Ghost Pumpkin" will not be dyed again.

Extra Fine Fingering Merino is 437 yards and 100 grams of 100% super wash merino.

Note from Sundara...I googled "autumn blues" and this shade of blue came up. A lot of them had browns in them, but I've done a lot of brown recently. I don't regret it. This turned out just lovely. If you want something that has the feelings of crisp autumn mornings blanketed with the sweet silence and mystery of a bit of fog, this is for you.

But, almost even better than the color, let's talk about this yarn. I knit my sister a big, blanket-type scarf-wrap out of this yarn and gave it to her in July. She's worn it so much that when I saw my 4-year-old niece last week, she demanded that I make her one "like her Mom's". Obviously, 4-year-olds don't get silky merino cashmere, but I was thrilled that my sister wore her gift that much. That's how great this yarn is. You'll wear it even when it's too hot to wear knit things. It's just that soft and amazing and silky and gorgeous. It's the best yarn, ever.

"Into the Mystic" will not be dyed again.

Fingering Silky Merino Cashmere is 437 yards and 100 grams of 75% super wash merino, 15% mulberry silk, and 10% cashmere.

      Curiosities
lace silky alpaca

Note from Sundara...When I dyed these, I didn't think they'd go together at all, but now that I see them lined up next to each other, I hope at least a few of you will combined them into a 3-color project. They are a unexpected color combination that, at first glance, you think "totally won't work" but then when you actually put them together, they harmonize so well it's kind of fascinating.

The pink (#15) is both rose pink and, I guess what you'd call a darker, muted "hot pink." Plus, a whole lot of other pinks going on. There's a touch of blue that came from somewhere, although I'm really not sure where. I swear I did not put blue in that pot, but yet, it's got a little blue in it.

The multi-color blue (#16) seems to have all sorts of things going on. There's everything from cerulean to violet along with a few pinks and, well, silvers. Yet it all works and blends and looks super pretty.

The dark (#17) doesn't fully show all its variety in the photo. You've got to see it in the light to really appreciate the various shades of dark blue that blend into a bit of brown and green. The highlights are more chartreuse than anything else. Each one is a little different, depending on how the dye overlaid the underlying color. It's another really interesting color.

"Curiosities #15, #16, and #17" will not be dyed again. One batch of each color dyed.

Lace Silky Alpaca is 328 yards and 50 grams of 75% brushed baby suri alpaca and 25% mulberry silk.
8 stitches per inch on US 3/3.25mm needles.

Note from Sundara...I rarely, and I mean almost never ever, dye mustard because it is an extremely niche color that only a few people like. Which is too bad. It's quite versatile and there's a lot of reasons why you might want a skein or two in your stash. Here's why:

      1) It makes a great pop of color in your knitting (or whatever you do with yarn) when you are doing those multi-color projects.

      2) It makes an unexpected and fun contrast to popular colors like blue, teal, and purple.

      3) This version of mustard is neither too bright, nor too dark, nor too light, nor too brown, nor too orange. It's just right.

So get a skein. You never know when it'll be just the thing perfect thing for your project and you'll be so happy you have it in your stash.

"The Golden Hour" will not be dyed again.

Note from Sundara...I know I did a neutral last week. It's why I saw this and who can resist hazelnut praline ice cream? I can't. If you can, maybe you can't resist the color. It's super pretty. Simply a gorgeous neutral. Creamy, delicious. Nutty. Caramel. What more can you ask for? It's even got a bit of shine from the silk.

A lot of you ask me what to knit with this yarn. I like "Amren" by Joji. She says it's a simple and delicate shawl, which I think is perfect for this yarn. And the original is knit out of blend with alpaca and silk. You'll need 1 skein (but might need to check the pattern for yardage suggestions.) The "Sockhead Cowl" by Kelly McClure is another one that would work. Especially if you need for miles and miles of stockinette. It's simple, yet this yarn would transform it into something elegant. (1 skein). Finally, I really love the "Jakobe" shawl by Anette Mielche. Designed in alpaca, it's a joy in garter with a bit of lace and is one I've put on my "to knit" list. Bonus, it's free. (2 skeins).

"Hazelnut Praline" will not be dyed again.

Note from Sundara...I haven't dyed aran merino since February, so I wanted to go with a color that would work for a lot of people in a lot of situations. So let me tell you why blue-violet is such a great color. If you have brown hair, this is it's complement, so it will make your brown hair richer, shinier, and more glowy. If you have silver or grey hair, this will contrast with it in a super lovely way. And that's just hair. Let's talk about what colors this goes with. It's dark enough and enough shades away from denim that you can wear it with jeans. It works great with black, so you can wear it with all your black. It can be dressed down, dressed up. It's one of the most versatile colors.

And it's aran merino, so it knits up fast. I like the "Step by Step" sweater by Nicole Miller. Cute and easy. Can't go wrong there. Cardigan-wise, "Miles Shirt Jacket" by Ozetta: Haily Smedley is super cozy. Or, don't overthink things. The "Bandana Cowl" by Purl Soho only takes 1 skein. You can't have too many of those.

"The Starfish and the Sea" will not be dyed again

Note from Sundara...Summer is officially over and I thought I'd embrace that with a pale neutral, which I haven't dyed in forever. I saw this and, well, wouldn't this look fabulous wrapped around your neck as a little something-something or maybe thrown on as a comfy cardigan for chillier days? Don't we all need some neutrals in our lives?

If you are up for it, "Mossblossom" is an amazing new lace wrap by Wool & Pine that would be gorgeous in a neutral (2 skeins). If you aren't up for lace (and I don't blame you), " Mara" bu Audrey Borrego will also wind around your neck and is super chic. (1 skein). As for cardigans, I'm in love with "Noctua cardigan" by Orlane Sucche because it just looks so...knitterly.

Note from Sundara...This was supposed to be a full batch of the alpaca but it turned out that what I thought was a full batch of lace silky alpaca was actually half lace silky mohair. But that's fun! We love mohair. It's shinier than the alpaca. And fluffier, too, actually.

This started as a lemon-orange and I put a dark purple over it. What you see is how it turned out. It's...fascinating. The silk core in both of the yarns has a kind of violet going on. It's more pronounced in the mohair. I don't know why the lemon-orange turned into lemon-lime. Probably the blue in the purple. It's really one of the most interesting colors I've dyed in a while.

I'd probably pair this with a fingering weight yarn and knit something like the "Oslo Hat" by Petite Knits. If you are feeling very daring, maybe "Yume" by Isabell Kraemer would be fun. Or, if you want to embrace this color for what it is, "Fluff" by Susan Ashcroft would be perfect.

1/2 batch of each yarn base available. This color will not be dyed again.

      Curiosities #12
extra fine fingering merino
1 skein left

Note from Sundara...Does anybody remember that movie "Snow Falling on Cedars" with, I think, Ethan Hawke? Back when he was young and maybe still married to Uma Thurman? Anyone? This yarn reminds me of that movie. Except without the snow and also, I never saw the movie. But if Snow Falling on Cedars were a yarn color, it would be this.

I checked to see if there were any patterns called "Snow Falling on Cedars." There are not. So instead, this feels like it should be a hat. Maybe the "Sockhead Slouch" by Kelly McClure (1 skein), or, if you are feeling fancy, "Leafkerchief" by Justyna Lorkowska (1 skein).

1 batch available. This color will not be dyed again.

Extra Fine Fingering Merino is 437 yards and 100 grams of 100% super wash merino.
7 stitches per inch on US 3/3.25mm needles.
Gently hand wash in tepid water for project longevity.

Note from Sundara...As this is the third day this week that I've dyed some variation of this color, I'm clearly having a love affair with this shade. But it's so pretty! It's like a pink rose and the desert southwest has a baby and it was this color. Or these poppies.

And sometimes, you want to knit something that doesn't have a lot of contrast. Those projects can turn out smashing. Two similar shades, one dark, one light. GORGEOUS. Trust me. I have a few of these projects myself. I like Stephen West's "Picnic Shawlette," as it's just a simple slip stitch pattern that knits up all sorts of interesting. (1 set needed). I also love Stephen's "Swing into Spring," which is garter and YOs. Super easy, yet looks intricate. (1 set) And for something that isn't designed by Stephen, but is a little more complicated, albeit way more swoon-worthy when you finish it, "Shawls Ahoi!" by SweaterFreak is super stunning and also just 1 set.

"Autumn Poppies" will not be dyed again. Each set includes 1 skein of each color. Updated: I kept a few of these for myself, but due to popular demand, I decided to put them up for you all. Now there are 2 sets left.

Extra Fine Fingering Silky Merino is 437 yards and 100 grams of 75% super wash merino and 25% mulberry silk.
7 stitches per inch on US 3/3.25mm needles.

Note from Sundara...This was actually inspired by a Hibiscus my daughter got me for mother's day. This photo is the closest I could get in color. It's a gorgeous flower and I chose it because it is one of those colors that is often overlooked, but actually looks beautiful on a huge range of people, as it flatters a range of skintones. So hopefully that will entice you and now I just have to convince you why sport is a fabulous gauge.

Seriously. You all ask for sport and then no one buys it. Which is crazy, because it is so versatile and there are so many projects. You can knit pretty much any fingering weight accessory out there on bigger needles using sport gauge and it will just be slightly bigger and cozier. AND! There are hundreds of amazing patterns out there for this weight yarn. I love the "River's Song" vest by Emma Ducher. Or the "Elisabeth Blouse" by PetiteKnits. Or "Poppy Tee" also by PetiteKnits. OR!! " Fjolla" by Isabell Kraemer. Also, "Mabel" by Isabell Kraemer. The "Lithium Shawl" by Annelie Thomasson is amazing, if you aren't up for a sweater. And the "Pacific Crest Trail" hat by Kay Hopkins, if you want a smaller project. So really, there is no excuse not to embrace sport as a gauge!!

"Hibiscus" will not be dyed again.

Extra Fine Sport Merino is 328 yards and 100 grams of 100% super wash merino.
6 stitches per inch on US 5/3.75mm needles.

      The Midnight Flamingos
just a few skeins left!

Note from Sundara...A few months ago, I said I wanted to do a "looser" interpretation of inspiration photos, and today is one of those days. I've loved this photo for years, but could never figure out how to dye it up as yarn. I've been looking for something that feels autumn-y, because apparently I'm over summer and summer colors, and this seemed to work. I may have gone a little overboard with veering into autumn.

The two fingering merino skeins were dyed exactly like the two skeins of lace silky alpaca, so if you've ever wanted to knit something coordinating with these yarns, now is your chance. The two darker colors are like a delicious black cherry. Or stormy clouds at sunset over flamingos, as the case may be. The browns are underlaid with flamingo pink, so they have all sorts of rich, saturated color going on that makes them much more fun and "glowy" than your average brown. The darker black-red goes amazing with the brown, if you want to pair them up, but the individual colors look smashing together on their own.

"The Midnight Flamingos" will not be dyed again. Updated: 3 skeins of the browns left.

Extra Fine Fingering Silky Merino is 437 yards and 100 grams of 75% super wash merino and 25% mulberry silk.
7 stitches per inch on US 3/3.25mm needles.

      Curiosities #9
extra fine fingering merino
just a few skeins left!

Note from Sundara...I actually had an idea for this and it didn't turn out the way I hoped. BUT!! But!! My parents just visited the Redwood Forest in California and I have fond memories of visiting back when I was a child and this yarn made me think of that. How soft and silent and still everything is underneath those giant redwoods. It's like after a snowstorm, except in the midst of a green and burnt red forest. So maybe a little project to wrap yourself up in soft, silent, stillness when the world gets to be too much is in order?

"Curiosities #9" won't be dyed again

Note from Sundara...This is a deceptively mild skein of yarn. It's like, "Hi, I'm blue. Aren't I calm and pretty?" But really, it's got bits of lavender that are actually something I can only describe as "spicy lavender" and this really interesting color that grey-brown-yellow color. And the blues range from cobalt to sky to, well, pretty much everything in between. If you are a blue person and want something to really raise your blue game, this would be an awesome sweater. I like the "Leela top" by Caidree because it still feels like summer knitting, but you can wear it under a cardigan or jacket in cold weather, so it can still be a year-round sweater.

"Curiosities #7" won't be dyed again.

      Curiosities
lace silky alpaca
just a few skeins left!

Note from Sundara...This yarn base can be super fun to dye, but I've found that the Daily Dream inspiration can make me feel limited. Because if I just I throw dye in pots with this yarn, I can get really fun and unsual colors, but I have no idea how they will turn out. Which doesn't work when one is trying to aim for a specific "inspiration" color. So I decided to cut -loose, go a little bonkers, and threw dye and yarn in my pots without any direction to see what would happen. It was fun and, honestly, I totally love the yarn.

#1 (far left) started off orange and then I put purple on it. It's maybe my favorite of the bunch. It's so unusual. Kind of like a leopard on acid.

#2 (second from left) is pink and green, which has been my favorite color combination since I was 2 years old. So you pretty much can't go wrong there.

#3 (middle) as supposed to be indigo on bright teal, but I got carried away and now it's a dark navy-teal. If you aren't up for crazy colored yarn or you need a sort-of-solid to balance out a multicolored project, this is perfect.

#4 (second from right) is teal over pale peachy-pink. It's lovely. Less leopard on acid for those of you who want something multi-colored but less crazy.

#5 (far right) is the same pale peachy-pink base as #4, but with blue over it, so if you have a project that needs two coordinating colors, #4 and #5 work perfectly. It's a fabulous summery, Mediterranean blue.

"Curiosities" will not be dyed again. Updated: 3 skeins or less left of each color. #1 is sold out.

Note from Sundara...I'm obviously on a berries kick, both to eat and to dye. I saw this and was thinking about all the different colors that go into making a blackberry "black." So many colors! So I deconstructed it. Because that's even more fun and interesting.

We have #1 (far left), a heathered-grey-purple layered with, well, something akin to the color of blackberry juice. It's gorgeous.

#2 (second from the left) is a deep, dark, rich blackberry-wine-red. It's obviously the darkest of the bunch and probably closest to a straight-up "blackberry" color.

#3 (middle) is a slightly brighter purple that looks like a crushed berry. Also delightful.

#4 (second from the right) is a dark, rich, unripened berry-red. It's also the color of bing cherries, if you want a more "summer berry" flavor to your yarn.

#5 (far right) puts the blue in blackberry, which is essential. As there is a huge element of blue in blackberries. Blackberries, are, at their essential nature, dark, dark, purple, and purple is red and blue mixed together. So We had to have blue. And this is a lovely one. Rich and bright despite being dark. It's got a hint of the warm summer sky that every blackberry needs to ripen.

So get one skein. Get all five. It's your choice. They are all lovely because you can never wrong with blackberries.

"Blackberries, Deconstructed" will not be dyed again. Half a batch of each color available.

Note from Sundara...I saw this and thought...drama! And you know what drama makes for? Show-stopper projects. The king of projects where, if there were a show called the Great British Knit-Off, you'd get a Hollywood Handshake and Prue would tell you your knitting is faultless. Apologies if you don't get the British Bake-Off reference, but trust me, you want faultless knitting and a Hollywood Handshake. It would validate every stitch you've ever made. You might even cry with joy.

And then there is the yarn. This is some pretty, pretty yarn. So much color going on in each skein and even more excitement and drama and show-stopping going on when you combine these three together in a project. So go imagine a world where the Great British Knit-Off is a thing, stop some shows, and Paul Hollywood shakes your hand.

"The Beginning of Blossoms" will not be dyed again. Each set includes 1 skein of each color.

Note from Sundara...I've had several of you ask for a set of 5 colors for Stephen West's "Treasure Trove Wrap," which, if you haven't seen it, is an awesome pattern. I want to knit it myself. I picked this photo because a)so pretty and b)such a great range color going on. The "Treasure Trove Wrap" pattern doesn't lend itself to having a pop of that pink bougainvillea, so I left it out, but wouldn't this be gorgeous in some other pattern with a pop of pinky-orange mixed in as well?

If you aren't up for Stephen's "Treasure Trove," his "Aurora Cabin" shawl is also lovely and calls for 5 colors. Joji has two fabulous patterns for a set of 5 colors: "Sowing the Seeds of Love" and Starting Point." Or, if you wanted to add you pop of pink to this set, Joji's "Overthrow Wrap" can be knit up in fingering weight instead of mohair and the pop of pink would be amazing as the skeleton lines that break up the sections of that shawl. Whatever you decide, it will be lush!

      Gather Ye Roses
extra fine fingering merino
2 skeins left!

Note from Sundara...This is such an unusual color for a rose that I couldn't stop thinking about it. I also thought that it would make a great transition color for your projects, i.e. a summer to fall color. But then I realized it would be a great year-round color. I could see this working in autumn, winter, spring, and summer. So that's some awesome versatility, especially since, despite the heat and sunshine, when it comes to knitting, fall is right around the corner.

I dyed this as "solid," or you know, a hand-dyed solid. Which means the color has enough "solidness" about it that you can use it for all sorts of stitch patterns: lace, cables, fair isle, slip stitch, brioche. Whatever you could dream up. But, it's got just enough tonal and hue variation, that it will never be boring, and your project will have all sorts of depth and delight. And it's fingering merino, which is the most versatile yarn of all time. So this is pretty much perfect in every way, and we should all Gather Our Roses because autumn is right around the corner.

"Gather yes Roses" will not be dyed again.

Note from Sundara...I've been trying to figure out how to dye yarn based on this inspiration photo for, well, a couple years. It's a glorious photo. All those rich colors, and we love poppies. When I finally admitted it could not be dyed as a single-skein color, I originally thought I'd make this a duo color combo, but then I thought it might be interesting to expand it and see what happened. And isn't this pretty? In a dark and mysterious way?

The best of the bunch is #1, the blue fingering silk. It's that dark sky blue but it's got greeny-teal bits layered underneath that give it a subtle richness and depth of color that makes it so much more than just blue. It pairs super gorgeously with #4, the red, which I toned down just a tad so it's a rich, summer red rather than BRIGHT summer red. The others, #2, the red fingering silky merino singles and #3, the dark blackened blue layered over green in fingering silky merino are for those of you who maybe don't like knitting with 100% silk. The red is a little more twilight, with a blue layered over it, and the green is a bit more mysterious, what with those darks layered over the brighter poppy stem-green. Each skein is lovely all on its own, or, as a set of four, they capture the rich feel of summer poppies.

"Twilight of the Poppies" will not be dyed again. Half a batch of each color available.

      A Trio of Temptation
extra fine fingering merino set
3 left!

Note from Sundara...A bunch of you asked for the triadic color combination I did earlier this week on fingering merino. I am happy to oblige, although remember merino takes color differently than silk and alpaca.. Here's what I said about those colors the first time...

This is a "triadic color combination," which means each color on a color wheel is 120 degrees apart and if you drew a line between the three, it would form a triangle. Triangles are considered one of the most stable shapes and, not coincidentally, in color theory, triadic color combinations are considered some of the most harmonious. You pretty much can't go wrong when you combine them. And really, these look amazing together. So amazing, I decided to sell them as a set.

There are 80 bazillion projects for fingering weight yarn that use 3 colors. I know this because I checked Ravelry. so instead of giving you project options, I'm going to let you pick something. Because like I said last time, you can knit whatever you want out of this set. It will all work out because this is a triad of colors and you literally can't go wrong. It's mathematically impossible.

"A Trio of Temptation" will not be dyed again.
