Note from Sundara...All right. Buckle up cause this one is going to take some explaining, and then I've got pattern suggestions. If you don't feeling like listening to me ramble on and you like the yarn, just skip down and buy it. No need read on.
So, a while ago, I happened upon some other yarn dyer's "secret garden" yarn and, let me first say I have never criticized another yarn dyer's yarn. It would be rude, the height of bad manners, uncalled for, and I figure they have their aesthetic, I have mine and it's all good. But this. Oh my goodness. I saw this Secret Garden yarn, and it was a set, and it was nothing, NOTHING, like I would have expected a secret garden inspired set of colors to be. There was no green. There was no pink. There was nothing flowery about it.
It was so not secret gardeny, I found myself texting my knitting friend and making snarky comments like "What is that? Secret garden on the moon? Barren desert secret garden hell scape?" Because it was not anything like a secret garden I would have dyed. I was offended on behalf of yarn. And color. And Secret Gardens.
And it stuck with me and bugged me until I couldn't take it anymore, and I went out and found this photo, which was the closest I could find to my vision of "The Secret Garden" and I hit my pots and dyed these three colors, which I'm quite happy with. I think they just call out "Secret Garden." I hope you like it, too.
Of course, because this is a long diatribe, I figure I may as well include pattern suggestions for three color projects using the yardage of this yarn. If you are looking for something interesting but not too complex, might I suggest the "Jujuy" shawl by Joji? It's lovely. As is "Shake It Up" by Anna Johanna, but it's got the two color brioche in it, which is never mindless, but something I've been dying to try, and it looks well worth the effort. I mean check out those tassels! And for my crocheters, I love "Through the Clouds" shawl by Rachy Newin. It is stupendous.
"The Secret Garden" set will not be dyed again. Each set includes 1 skein of each color, 3 skeins total.
