Note from Sundara...I just got favorite green and favorite teal dye back after having been without them for a couple months, and I'm couldn't resist going a little crazy with them. I wanted to do something different in the way of inspiration photos, and I've had this kicking around for years, so I thought: why not?
This color took three trips into in the dye pot because silky merino is difficult to get super saturated with color and I wanted this to be a super saturated green and teal. And those three dips worked their magic because this is maybe one of my most deepest, richest, drenched in green and teal and all sorts of variations on those colors you can get. Yet it's still got that shimmer from the silk and all the softness you could want.

Extra Fine Fingering Silky Merino is 437 yards and 100 grams of 75% super wash merino and 25% mulberry silk.
7 stitches per inch on US 3/3.25mm needles.
Gently hand wash in tepid water for project longevity.

You can do pretty much whatever you want with yarn dyed this way. It's as versatile as it comes, especially in fingering merino. And this color is one of those that works for almost everyone, too. And, now that I'm thinking about it, it's pretty much a four-season color. You could wear it year round and it would go with just about anything. It's like a non-neutral neutral. Can't beat that.

And it made me think that really, we should be wearing our little black dresses for a night out. Although, honestly, that's my worst nightmare. I'm way to comfortable in my middle-age. My bedtime is 9pm. But the idea! Doesn't it sound like fun?
So I compromised and found us a subdued night on the town. None of these flashing lights and loud music. We've got deep and dark and rich. And even though it's a got a little shimmer and shine because of the silk, it'll still go with jeans. It'll go with fancy black pants. It'll go with your black coat or maybe khaki trench coat or pretty much any coat you might own. It'll go with just about everything. It's the little black dress of yarn even if you never wear it for a night out.

Visit product page →Note from Sundara...I came across this inspiration photo last spring and I've been low-key obsessed with it ever since. All that dark almost black that leans somehow both blue and purple at the same time, along with the highlights that are somehow the color of a caribbean sea but subdued by all that darkness. It's magnificent.
I did my best with the yarn. I think I came pretty close. It's fingering silky merino, so it's got that subtle shimmering shine inherent to flower petals. And soft. It's oh so soft. What more could you ask for?

Visit product page →Note from Sundara...I wanted to try my whole "dark without using black" on silky merino because this yarn is really hard to get super saturated and intense. It's the silk. It does that. And, somehow, recently, I started following The Dahlia Society on Instagram, so I've been feed a continuous diet of super pretty dahlias the last few weeks. Resistance was futile. I also happened to have a long discussion with my nieces and nephews on how Santa Claus could totally be real because Auntie Sundara still has a very real fear of vampires even though they are supposedly not real. This all came together in today's yarn.
Because really, who says Dracula wants everything to be red just because he likes blood? Maybe he wants to mix it up every now and again. Put a little purple into rotation. A sophisticated little scarf in this color would be just the thing. For him or for you. It would keep the chill off his bloodless neck and it would keep him from sucking your blood. Win-win.
And this is a very sophisticated purple. It's dark, yet it has all kinds of color variation going on that you really have to see in person to get the full effect. It's spectacular. All that layering of color to get the "dark without using black" totally paid off. Dracula would be thrilled.
