Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are Limited Edition colorways and Permanent Collection colorways?
A: Permanent Collection colorways are colors Sundara has developed that can be repeated over and over again most of the yarn bases. Limited Edition colorways are colors that are one of a kind and can't be repeated and won't be available ever again.
Q: How are the Limited Edition colorways named?
A: Our colorways and dyeing are heavily influenced by the natural environment and watching the flora, fauna, skies and water change through the seasons and even from day to day. We've started naming the Limited Edition yarn to reflect nature and the huge color variety and subtlety within basic elements: water, earth, shadow, wood, flower and fire.
Q: I have sent customer service mean and manipulative emails. I also haven't been receiving your weekly email notifications. Why?
A: We are actual people with feelings here at Sundara Yarn and appreciate receiving emails that would be something you would say to us if you were meeting us in person. We attempt to always treat our customers with respect and kindness and we've chosen to remove customers from our email notification lists who haven't shown us the same respect.
Q: The yarn in your photos looks different than the photos I've seen of the same colorway on Ravelry. Which photo is more accurate?
A: We often check Ravelry to see how Sundara Yarn is photographed and rarely see photos that accurately represent the true color of the yarn. This is most likely due to differences in monitors, but may also be due to how the yarn was photographed by the Ravelry member. That being said, Ravelry is often a great place to check Permanent Collection colorways to get an overall feel for colorway and its variations, as seeing a larger volume of photos of a specific colorway can be helpful in the color choosing process.
We use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to color correct all our yarn photos and we use the proper color profile to ensure there is minimal distortion of the color of the yarn when the photo is uploaded to the internet. In addition, we use a professional quality DSLR camera to ensure that as much of the color is captured in the original photo. We are doing all we can to display the yarn as accurately as possible but we cannot control how your monitor displays the color, which is the main reason the yarn you order may not look exactly like the photo and why the photos on Ravelry often do not look like our photos of the yarn.
Q: The yarn I received from you looks different from the photo on the website. Is your monitor calibrated correctly?
A: The monitor we use to prepare photos for the website is calibrated, but monitor calibration is primarily for printing photos. Nearly every monitor displays photos and the yarn differently and there is very little we can do about that on our end. That being said, the yarn is more likely to look accurate if you have the same monitor we use, which is an Apple LED Cinema Display in the 24" size and the anti-glare screen. We wish there was more we could do so the photos are accurately displayed on your monitor, but in addition to monitor differences, there are variables such as the angle of your monitor, the ambient lighting of the room your monitor is in, the brightness you have your monitor set to, etc and this all affects how the yarn looks to you and these variables are all out of our control.
Q: My yarn has red (or blue or any other color) spots on it and I don't like them. What can I do?
A: Periodically, some of our colors, more often the non-repeatable colors, have red or blue or black spots or speckles or blotches on them. It usually isn't consistent through the skeins of a specific colorway, but is a random occurrence on some skeins. We note the issue below the photo of the batch of yarn, but we do not consider this a defect, rather it is part of the uniqueness of the hand-dyeing process. If this is something that bothers you, we recommend not purchasing yarn that notes this issue.
Q: I want to knit the Tatami Kimono, but can’t find the pattern. Do you have a copy of the pattern I can buy or a pdf of it I could download?
A: The Tatami Kimono is now available here.
Q: I've seen a sock pattern by Sundara Yarn with a flower name. Is this still available?
A: This was a pattern Sundara wrote for the Petals Collection sock club. They were only available to collection members and aren’t currently available.
Q: My fingering silky merino label states that there is 400 yards per skein, but the site says that each skein is 500 yards per skein. Did I get shortchanged?
A: No, we had a labelling error that we didn't notice until the yarn had already been mailed to quite a few people. Every skein of fingering silky merino that we have sold has been and will continue to be 500 yards and 150 grams per skein. Your skein is actually 500 yards and we do apologize for the confusion.
Q: I’d like to sell your yarn at my yarn store. Do you sell wholesale?
A: Sorry, no.
